Welcome to this special place beneath the sumac and sky on this most special of days.  Just as the last days of summer fill your senses and warm your heart, so too are the feelings we all share for James and Cindy as they unite today in the sacred trust of marriage.

 You are to each other what the earth and wind and seeds are to life.   Just as the wildlife nourishes the soil and stream, just as the stream and soil nourish the seeds of the trees that grow strong around us, just as the trees and plants proved the air that we breathe, you are all nurturing to each other.  Provide strength when you partner is weak, shelter when your partner is cold, and love when your partner feels lost.  Scatter the seeds of your love easily and with joy, encouraging each other and those of us around you to grow with love.

And from the Profit:

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.

You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.

Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another but make not a bond of love:

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

Even as the strings of a lute are alone; they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.

And stand together, yet not too near together:

For strength the pillars of the temple stand apart

Statement of intent

James do you take Cindy  to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, in sickness and health, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, and to be to  her all and good things a true and faithful husband? If so say I do

Cindy  do you take James to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, in sickness and health, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, and to be to her all and good things a true and faithful  wife? If so say I do

Have patience with each other:  Be free in giving of affection and of warmth.  Above all remember that marriage is personal between you two, let no outsider guide your heart, hand or judgment, for they have not traveled the road they you have shared.  There is no greater magic on this world than two people joined together in love.  Be close, grow together and grow individually, as the lily needs the lattice shade of the oak, neither will the lily survive in total shadow.

Vows

Cindy  will you hand your bouquet to you maid of honor, James take her hands in yours and repeat after me

 James  Repeat after me but speak to Cindy

Cindy, these are my promises to you:

that I will love you freely, as the sky loves the bird,

as the sunset loves the evening;

that I will love you with my words and all of my actions;

that I will love you purely,

with all of my honor, and my knowing,

with all the best intentions of my being;

that I will love you joyfully, with my body,

with my laughter, with my foolishness and playing,

 until we grow old together.

  And then I shall love you sweetly and gladly,

until our lives shall come to an end.

  Nor shall death part us, for in the fullness of time,

 we will be born again, and we shall meet,

 remember and love again.

May I have the rings.

James please place your  ring on Cindy’s finger and repeat after me

As this symbol of my love is unbroken, so shall be my promise to you.

Cindy please place your ring on James’s finger and repeat after me

As this symbol of my love is unbroken, so shall be my promise to you.

A wish written for you by Colleen

In your journeys together;

May you face the Autumn sun like the sun flower, always drinking in the warmth of your love.

May your winters bloom like Christmas cactus,  filling gray days with  wonder and  color and joy.

May you travel through the blizzards of life like the spring beauty  - sending your buds skyward through the snow and  cold to see the promise of the coming spring.

And may your summers be filled with roses: White for hope, Yellow for friendship, a Medley for fun,  and of course,  Red for the lovers you shall always be.

 Let those assembled here bear witness that James and Cindy are joined in love.  May their love partake of the beauty, majesty and power of this sacred land, may the seeds they have planted take strong root in the earth and grow together in wisdom, joy and harmony.

 Proclamation..

Kiss
