Welcome on this the most joyful of days, as we unite my dearest friends
take each other in to the scared trust of matrimony.
I use
the word trust, for love and marriage cannot survive without fidelity,
security, friendship, emotional support, unconditional dedication to each
other, and passion: which is the basis to true love, and the heart of
marriage.
It is the giving of yourselves not the taking that make you who you are
today. And tomorrow as you wake as husband and wife the giving and the
trust will be more important than it is today. Marriage is a journey of
life not a destination.
GROOM
do you stand before me and beside BRIDE – freely ? Is it your desire to
take this woman as your wife? If so say I do
BRIDE
do you stand before me and beside GROOM freely? Is it your desire to make
this man your husband? If so say I do.
The
vows you are about to give and receive should be taken to heart for that
is what love is about. Remember marriage is personal between a husband
and wife, Let no outsider guide your hand, heart or deed, especially me,
for we have not traveled the road that brought you before me today,
"You
cannon possess each other for you belong to your selves
But while you both wish it, give that which is yours to give.
You cannon command each other for you are free persons
But serve each other in all those ways you can and the honeycomb will
taste sweeter coming from thyn married hand"
Will you face BRIDE taking both her hands in your own, will you repeat
after me but speak to your bride?
"BRIDE, I pledge to you the first bite of my meat, and the first sip of
my wine I pledge to you my living and my dying,
each equally in your care
I shall be a shield for your back , as you are for mine
I pledge to you, that yours will be the only name I cry aloud in the
night
and the eyes into which I smile in the morning
I shall honor you above all others
I shall not slander you, nor you me, and when we quarrel we shall do so
in
private and tell no strangers our grievances
And above all I cherish you and only you, as long as we both shall live"
"This is my wedding vow to you
This is the marriage of equals."
BRIDE will speak you GROOM but repeat after me
GROOM, I pledge to you the first bite of my meat and the sip of my wine
I pledge to you my living and my dying, each equally in your care
I shall be a shield for your back as you are for mine
I pledge to you that yours will be the name I cry aloud in the night, and
the eyes into which I smile in the morning
I shall honor you above all others
I shall not slander you, nor you me
, and when we quarrel we shall do so in
private and tell no strangers our grievances
above all I shall cherish you and only you for as long as we live "
"This is my wedding vow to you
This is the marriage of equals."
My I
have the rings?
GROOM
place the ring on BRIDE’s finger and repeat after me
As the
symbol of my love is unbroken, so shall be my promise to you
With
this ring – I thee wed,
GROOM
place the ring on BRIDE’s finger and repeat after me
As the
symbol of my love is unbroken, so shall be my promise to you
With
this ring – I thee wed,
May green be the grass you walk upon,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
It is
with the greatest of pleasure I get to pronounce you GROOM, BRIDE:
husband and wife
GROOM
you may kiss your bride.
